Gregory C. Fernandopulle, M.D. joined the Center
in 1998. He is a board certified general and child & adolescent
psychiatrist who sees children, adolescent and adults. He specializes
in the treatment of attention, anxiety, learning, movement,
mood, and trauma disorders in all age groups and in cross cultural
psychiatry. Dr. Fernadopulle is especially known for his expertise
in pediatric psychopharmacology and psychiatric problems of
the clergy.
Dr. Fernandopulle is a naturalized US Citizen
who was born and educated in Sri Lanka (Ceylon). He completed
his undergraduate medical, and general residency education at
the University of Sri Lanka. Before coming to the United States
in 1969 to begin a psychiatric residency, he worked for two
years as a primary care physician. He completed his adult psychiatric
training at the Seton Psychiatric Institute in Baltimore in
1972 and his child & adolescent fellowship and chief residency
in 1974 at Johns Hopkins. Following his training, he served
for more than twenty years as St. Agnes Hospital’s Director
of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. In addition to his hospital
work, Dr. Fernandopulle has maintained active office and consulting
practices and a continuous commitment to child fellowship training
as a Hopkins clinical supervisor. He is an active member, past
president and fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry and as President of the Sri Lankan-American Catholic
Association of Greater Washington is heavily involved in the
2005 Tsunami Relief Effort.
