Sara Mahmood is a board certified adult psychiatrist who values humanistic, culturally sensitive care. Her clinical work emphasizes understanding the full context of each individual’s experience, including the biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors that influence mental health. She thoughtfully incorporates principles of nutrition and exercise into medication management as part of a comprehensive approach to care.
She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and went on to receive her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine with a focus in Medical Humanities. Her adult psychiatry residency was completed through the University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt, followed by advanced fellowship training in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at the University of Maryland. She also holds a certificate from the National Curriculum for Reproductive Psychiatry.
Her clinical interests include supporting women across the lifespan, particularly during pregnancy, the postpartum period, perimenopause, and other significant life transitions. She brings a thoughtful and integrative perspective to the care of individuals navigating complex medical and emotional concerns.
Dr. Mahmood lives locally with her spouse and two young children.
